2018 Syrah
Abundant sunlight and sandy soil make California's southern-most appellation, Temecula Valley, one of the best growing places for Syrah. 1968 Cellars’ 17-year-old Syrah grapes have small berries, dark black skin, high tannin ratio but medium acidity, which make the resulting wine a very deep violet, with a solid full body. The taste is strong and complex. 18 months of aging in French Oak barrels softens the tannin and brings out the intensely fruity and dark chocolate flavors from our Syrah while generating other tastes of toast, smokiness, vanilla, and spices. Complex flavor such as leather will gradually evolve after several years aging in bottles.
